It all comes down to Pee Dee.
Rep. Russell Fry received 43.8% of the vote in the Pee Dee Region during the South Carolina Republican U.S. Senate primary in August, beating Sen. Darline Graham by 10.9 points.
It was his best performance of any region in the state and the largest contributor to his 19.7% statewide result.
Fry, who placed third in the primary, has since endorsed Graham. He appeared at a Trump rally for Graham in Pee Dee’s Horry County on Friday.
Pee Dee has played an important role in Republican primaries, and while its coastal and rural areas act differently, together they form of the most conservative and pro-Trump areas of the state.
The region usually comprises nine counties, all in the northeast corner of the state, and is named after the Pee Dee River in the Carolinas.
